WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Wake Forest women's basketball will step into its first exhibition game this Sunday, visiting NC A&T in an afternoon matchup. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. inside the Corbett Sports Center.
There will be free admission for all spectators. Additionally, live stats will be available to follow the action in Greensboro.
Sunday will be the first of two preseason exhibition tests for the Deacs, as a home contest versus UNCG will follow a week later on Oct. 25.
2026-27 Deacs
Wake Forest has a balance of returning production and newcomers on its 2026-27 roster, led by six letterwinners – Mary Carter, Aurora Sørbye, Opal Bird, Madisyn Jordan Grace Galbavy and Savannah Metcalfe.
Starting as a forward, Carter was the second leading scorer for the team this past winter, averaging 11.0 points per game during her first year in Winston-Salem. The Rocklin, Calif., native also led the Deacs in three-pointers made (70) and free throw percentage (.864). Sørbye paced the team in both total assists (95) and assists per game as a sophomore (3.0) while appearing in all 32 contests and adding 7.2 points a night. Bird had an immediate first-year impact, tying with Carter as the team leader in blocks (21) while also ranking second among ACC freshmen in assists per game (2.8). Jordan and Galbavy provided valuable depth for the team as perimeter pieces while Metcalfe made 14 appearances as a freshman before her season was cut short due to injury.
The Deacs have also added six newcomers on scholarship to its roster – Oshauna Holland, Adora Nwude, Helena Danielewicz, Breauna Ware, Ramiyah Byrd and Mckenzie Swanson.
Holland, the all-time leading scorer in North Carolina high school girls basketball history, enters her freshman season as a versatile backcourt piece. Fellow first-year Nwude brings athleticism at the guard spot, having been a 1,000-point scorer for the Bullis School Bulldogs that made the 2026 Chipotle National Championship game. Rounding out Wake's freshmen core, Danielewicz is coming off a standout summer with the Poland FIBA U-18 team at the Women's EuroBasket 2026.
Ware holds strong experience through her collegiate career, with stops at Wisconsin, Stony Brook and St. Bonaventure. The scoring guard made 25 appearances for the Badgers last season and shot over 38 percent from three-point distance. Byrd has spent the last three seasons at Cincinnati as one of the team's top rebounders, playing in 29 games during 2025-26. Swanson, providing depth as a forward, was a member of the Butler Bulldogs' program for the past two years.
Scouting the Aggies
NC A&T finished 12-18 overall last season, with a 7-11 clip in CAA play. The Aggies competed against three Power Four schools – Texas Tech, North Carolina and Georgia. The team's season capped with a first-round exit in the 2026 CAA Women's Basketball Tournament.
Senior forward Paris Locke is the returning leading scorer and rebounder for the Aggies, having averaged 11.2 points and 6.4 rebounds per game last season. She also led the team in assists as a junior (3.6/game). Senior forward Darrionna Howard and sophomore guard Crystal Hardy are back after posting 6.1 points per game apiece during 2025-26. Nine of NC A&T's 15-player roster are underclassmen.
Head coach Tarrell Robinson is in his 15th year at the helm of the program. During his time in Greensboro, he has tallied a 260-161 head coaching record, in addition to five MEAC Championships and three NCAA Tournament appearances.
Series History
While Sunday's game will not count towards season records or statistics, it will be a first unofficial start to the Demon Deacons' 2026-27 season. Wake Forest and NC A&T will meet for the first time since Nov. 15, 2023.
