Last Time Out
• The Demon Deacons earned an extra-innings victory over UNCG on Wednesday, winning on a walk-off single from Patrick Frick in the 10th.
• Wake Forest's pitchers combined to allow just one run on three hits over 10 innings. Those outings included starter Tyler Witt (5.0 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 4 K), and relievers Bobby Hearn (2.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K) and Antonio Menendez (W, 3.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K).
• Bobby Seymour went 4-for-5 with a double, while Frick and Jake Mueller had two hits and two walks apiece.
Wake Forest Storylines
• The Demon Deacons return an experienced group in 2019, bringing back eight of the nine position starters and two-thirds of the weekend rotation. Last year, Wake Forest had the fifth-most starts from freshmen in the country, with five rookies making more than 35 starts each. The Deacs return 88 percent of the team's hits from last year (437/499), as well as 71 percent of the innings pitched (366.1/515.1).
• Wake Forest boasts three of D1Baseball's top-100 college draft prospects for the 2019 MLB Draft, including Friday starter Morgan McSweeney (No. 58), Saturday starter Colin Peluse (No. 88), and draft-eligible sophomore outfielder DJ Poteet (No. 100).
Opponent & Series History
• Wake Forest leads the all-time series against Furman, 6-1, but the teams haven't played since 1997.
• "The Buddie Bowl" surrounds Deacon Baseball alum Mike Buddie, who went on to a five-year MLB career, then returned and spent a decade in the Wake Forest athletic department, including as the Senior Associate AD for Administration/Development. He was then named Furman's athletic director in 2015 and is in his fourth year at FU.
• The Paladins are led by John Michael Boswell, hitting .440 with two homers and nine RBIs. Furman is 2-4, most recently falling to UNC Asheville on Wednesday.
On Deck
• Wake Forest travels to take on top-25 Coastal Carolina on Tuesday and Wednesday.
