WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Wake Forest women's basketball team fell to the Clemson Tigers, 69-53, Thursday night at the LJVM Coliseum. Ivana Raca led the attack with 15 points and nine rebounds, marking the sophomore's 18th game of the season with double figures.
Ona Udoh scored six points and matched Raca's rebound total of nine. Maya Banks contributed eight points and attacked the glass for seven rebounds in her fourth start of the season.
Wake Forest (10-12, 1-9 ACC) started the game off on a 6-0 run in the first minute of play thanks to its defense, which forced Clemson (15-8, 6-4 ACC) to commit turnovers during its first three possessions. With 4:12 to play in the first quarter, the Deacons led the Tigers 10-5 after six early points from Raca.
Wake's defense continued to shine throughout the opening segment, forcing 10 Clemson turnovers through the first nine minutes. The Demon Deacons led 12-9 after holding the Tigers to a 3-of-11 start from the field in the opening quarter.
Clemson answered the Deacs by igniting a 13-0 run in the opening minutes of the second quarter to take a 22-12 lead it would not relinquish. The Tigers continued their success for the remainder of the quarter and led the Deacs 35-24 at the half. Clemson outpaced the Deacs throughout the final two quarters to win the contest, 69-53.
Wake Forest will host Georgia Tech in the LJVM Coliseum on Sunday, February 10. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. on ACC Network Extra. Sunday's contest is Wake Forest's annual Play4Kay game and the Demon Deacons' recognition of National Girls and Women in Sports Day. All fans wearing pink will receive admission to the game.
