Four Demon Deacons Receive ACC Postgraduate Scholarships

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. –Four Wake Forest student-athletes are among the 52 recipients of the ACC's 2019 Weaver-James-Corrigan Postgraduate Scholarship Award. Track and field's Mimi Smith, field hockey's Megan Anderson and Jule Grashoff and men's tennis' Petros Chrysochos have been selected from Wake Forest.
Smith was one of three ACC student-athletes to receive the Jim and Pat Thacker Award, while Chrysochos was named an honorary recipient for the Weaver-James-Corrigan Scholarship.
The Weaver-James-Corrigan and Jim and Pat Thacker postgraduate scholarships are awarded to student-athletes who intend to pursue a graduate degree following completion of their undergraduate requirements. Each recipient will receive $6,000 toward his or her graduate education. Those honored have performed with distinction in both the classroom and their respective sport, while demonstrating exemplary conduct in the community.
A native of Wilmette, Ill., majoring in health and exercise science, Smith competed in 16 cross country and 21 track and field events for the Demon Deacons. She's a three-time All-ACC academic team selection ('16, '17, '18) and a recipient of 2018 second team All-ACC honors in the outdoor 10k. Smith set a career-best mark in the indoor 5k with a time of 16:35.25 at the 2019 Iowa State Classic. Upon graduation, she will be attending physical therapy school at Duke University in the fall.
Anderson, a team captain and health and exercise science major, completed her Demon Deacon field hockey campaign as the all-time assists leader in Wake Forest history with 61, 29 of which came during her senior season. Throughout the year, she led the nation in assists per game. Anderson started all 81 games during her four years with the Deacs. She earned All-ACC and NFHCA All-American honors and was named to the All-ACC Academic team.
A Bremen, Germany native, Grashoff will continue her education as a finance major. She led the ACC and ranked seventh in the nation with a career-high 24 goals during the season and added six assists for a team-high 54 points. Grashoff finishes her Wake Forest career ranked third all-time in both goals (69) and points (173). She joins Anderson on the All-ACC Academic Team and was also named All-ACC First Team and an NFHCA Second Team All-American.
Chrysochos, A three-time All-American, became the program's all-time leader in career singles victories when he surpassed former teammate Skander Mansouri earlier this season. The Larnaca, Cyrpus native led the Deacs to their first-ever NCAA Championship in May before claiming the first NCAA Singles title in program history. He became the first men's tennis player since 1996 to win the three major singles titles, as he has also won the ITA All-American Championship and ITA National Fall Championship. Chrysochos has been named a semifinalist for the AAU Sullivan Award, which recognizes the top amateur athlete in the country. A three-time All-ACC honoree, Chrysochos was named the ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year for men's tennis a year ago.
The student-athletes will be honored at the annual Cone Health ACC Postgraduate Scholarship Luncheon presented by ESPN on April 10. The luncheon will be hosted by the Nat Greene Kiwanis Club at the Sheraton Four Seasons Hotel Imperial Ballroom.
