No. 3 Deacs Sweep Clemson for Share of ACC Regular Season Title

Demon Deacons can win title outright with one win in final two matches

CLEMSON, S.C. – The third-ranked Wake Forest men's tennis team clinched at least a share of its third consecutive ACC regular season title Sunday (March 31) afternoon as the Demon Deacons swept Clemson, 7-0.
Following a week off from competition, Wake Forest (24-3, 10-0 ACC) can win the title outright with at least one win against Florida State (April 12) or Miami (April 14). The Deacs were the outright regular season champions in 2016 and shared the title a year ago.
The Demon Deacons made quick work of Clemson (8-13, 1-7 ACC), finishing off the Tigers in two hours and fifteen minutes.
Wake Forest's dominance began in doubles, with the duos of Bar Botzer/Petros Chrysochos and Siddhant Banthia/Melios Efstathiou posting matching 6-2 victories at the No. 2 and 3 positions, respectively.
The Deacs' lead grew to 2-0 after Julian Zlobinsky won 6-4, 6-0 at No. 6 singles. Chrysochos put Wake Forest a point from victory when he blanked Simon Baudry, 6-0, 6-0. Efstathiou clinched the match with a 6-1, 6-3 victory at No. 4 singles.
Wake Forest closed out the match with victories by Banthia (6-3, 6-2), Rrezart Cungu (6-1, 7-6(8) and Botzer (3-6, 6-2, 10-3).
The Demon Deacons are back in action for the final time in the regular season on Friday, April 12 against Florida State and Sunday, April 14 against Miami. Sunday's match will be Senior Day for the Demon Deacons.
