No. 22 Deacs Down No. 40 Boston College; Advance to Quarterfinals of ACC Championships

CARY, N.C. – The 22nd-ranked Demon Deacons defeated No. 40 Boston College (16-10) 4-2 in the second round of the ACC Championships.
Wake Forest (20-7) opened the match with a win in doubles, taking the initial point. The Eagles picked up the first doubles win, a 6-3 decision on court one, but Wake answered back with a 6-3 victory of their own just seconds later on court two. All eyes turned to court three where Anna Ulyashchenko and Lexi Franco clinched the point with a 6-3 win.
In singles, No. 34 Emma Davis cruised past No. 71 Yufei Long 6-0, 6-2 giving the Deacs a 2-0 advantage. Ulyashchenko finished second, with a huge 6-4, 7-5 victory on court two as Wake Forest took a 3-0 lead. Boston College put its first point on the board with a 6-4, 6-2 win on court four.
All remaining matches went into three sets as the Eagles rallied back. Sophomore Eliza Omirou clinched the win for the Deacons, taking down Jackie Urbanati 6-4, 1-6, 6-2 in the third spot. Boston College finished the match with a 2-6, 6-2, 7-5 win on six.
Up next, Wake Forest will face the No. 3 seed Florida State tomorrow at 6 p.m. at the Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center at Duke. Due to inclement weather, the time and location of the quarterfinal match were altered.
