Petros Chrysochos, Borna Gojo and Bar Botzer will represent the Deacs in the singles field
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Wake Forest trio of Petros Chrysochos, Borna Gojo and Bar Botzer were all selected to compete in the NCAA Singles Championship, as the NCAA announced the singles and doubles tournament fields on Tuesday (April 30).
It is the third consecutive year in which three Demon Deacons will be competing in the singles draw.
For Chrysochos, the reigning NCAA Singles champion, he becomes the first player in program history to earn bids into the singles draw all four years of his collegiate career. As a No. 9-16 seed, Chrysochos has also solidified All-America honors for the fourth consecutive year. He is the first player in program history to earn four All-America honors in either the singles or doubles championship. Former Deac Skander Mansouri was also a four-time All-America, earning two honors in singles and a pair in doubles.
Gojo, who finished runner-up to Chrysochos in the singles draw a year ago, is back in the field for the third year in a row. The junior also earned a No. 9-16 seed to secure his All-America status. An All-America in each of the last two years, he becomes just the third player to be a three-time All-America in either singles or doubles alone (Chrysochos – Singles, Steven Forman – Doubles).
Botzer secures his first-ever trip to the NCAA Singles Championship after rising as high No. 20 in the national rankings. The sophomore can become the third Deac to be an All-America this season by winning a pair of matches and advancing to the Round of 16, or by finishing in the top 20 of the final ITA singles rankings.
Wake Forest begins its postseason run on Friday, May 3, in the opening round of the NCAA Tennis Championship. The Demon Deacons, the overall No. 4 seed, will face Morgan State at 4 p.m. at the Wake Forest Tennis Complex in the Winston-Salem Regional.
