No. 22 Deacons Drop Thriller to No. 10 NC State

WINSTON-SALEM, NC- Despite a strong start, the 22nd-ranked Wake Forest women's tennis team dropped a heartbreaker to No. 10 NC State 5-2 on Friday evening at the WF Tennis Center. The loss marks the first home loss of the season for Wake Forest.
No. 22 Wake (17-6, 7-4 ACC) got off to an impressive start, sweeping the doubles matches to take the early 1-0 lead. 37th-ranked Emma Davis and Chandler Carter downed No. 9 Anna Rogers and Alana Smith 6-3 to open the match. On court two, Eliza Omirou and MC Meredith clinched the doubles point with a 6-4 decision. Anna Ulyashchenko and freshman Saby Nihalani capped the doubles sweep with a 6-3 win in the third spot.
The Wolfpack (20-3, 10-1 ACC) took the first singles match of the day on court one as No. 15 Rogers topped No. 33 Davis. Carter put the Deacs back in front defeating Bianca Moldovan 6-4, 6-4 in the fifth spot.
The remainder of the matches were three set efforts that were back-and-forth, but the Wolfpack outlasted Wake Forest to pick up the next four points for the comeback victory.
Up next, the Demon Deacons head to Chapel Hill to face No. 2 North Carolina. Match time was altered and will now begin at 3 p.m.
