Wake Forest Earns Top Seed at NCAA Myrtle Beach Regional

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Wake Forest men's golf team was selected to the NCAA Myrtle Beach Regional as the fields of the six NCAA regionals were announced Wednesday (May 1). The Demon Deacons will be the No. 1 seed in Myrtle Beach, as action will take place May 13-15 at TPC Myrtle Beach in Murrells Inlet, S.C.
The top five teams at each of the six regionals will advance to the NCAA Championships, held May 24-29 in Fayetteville, Ark.
California, Texas Tech, Illinois and Florida State join Wake Forest as the top five seeds in the regional. UNLV, Oregon, Ohio State, Northwestern, Oregon State, Cal State Fullerton, Middle Tennessee, VCU and Robert Morris round out the field in Myrtle Beach.
"We are happy to be a No. 1 seed and we are looking forward to traveling to a place where we have played well," said head coach Jerry Haas. "This team is excited for the postseason. They have worked hard all year to be ready for this opportunity."
Wake Forest will be making its 30th NCAA Regional appearance since the current format was adopted in 1989. The Demon Deacons have advanced from regional play to the NCAA Championships 15 times, including regional victories in 2005, 2006 and 2008.
The Demon Deacons are entering regionals with a No. 3 national ranking, their highest place at the end of a regular season since 2003, when they were also No. 3. Wake Forest has posted five victories in 2018-19, its most since 1983-84, and has not finished below fourth place in an event this season.
