JOHNSON, Ark. – Wake Forest head coach Jerry Haas was named a finalist for the Dave Williams Award, the Golf Coaches Association of America announced on Friday. Haas is one of five finalists for the award, annually given to the national coach of the year in Division I men's golf.
Haas is joined as a finalist by Jason Enloe of SMU, Conrad Ray of Stanford, Mike Small of Illinois and Matt Thurmond of Arizona State. The award will be presented after the conclusion of the NCAA Championships.
"This honor is all about the team," said Haas. "They make a coach look good and because of their play and their hard work this season, that is why I am a finalist for this award. I feel fortunate to get to work with this group every day."
Haas has led the Demon Deacons to five victories in 2018-19, the most in a season for the program since 1983-84 when Haas was a player on the team. Wake Forest ended the season ranked No. 3 nationally and advanced to the NCAA Championships for the 10th time under Haas. The Demon Deacons are on pace to break the school record for team stroke average by over four shots a round this season.
Wake Forest is T-5th after Friday's first round of the NCAA Championships in Johnson, Ark. Round two of the NCAA Championships are Saturday at the Blessings Golf Club. The Demon Deacons will tee off in the first pairings of the day, beginning at 6:50 a.m. CT.
