JOHNSON, Ark. – The Wake Forest men's golf team had five players honored this week as the Golf Coaches Association of America announced the PING All-Region Teams. Kengo Aoshima, Eric Bae, Eugenio Chacarra, Alex Fitzpatrick and Cameron Young were all named the All-East Region Team.
The five selections were the most in the East Region and tied for most nationally with Arizona State, who had five selections on the All-West Region Team.
"Five players on the all-region team shows the talent and depth of this team," said head coach Jerry Haas. "They were instrumental in our team winning five times this season, finishing third in stroke play at NCAAs and reaching NCAA match play. Four of them will be back and will help lead our team next year, where our goal is to get back to match play and win it. With their talent and dedication, that is a realistic goal."
Senior Cameron Young was honored for the third consecutive year. He led the Demon Deacons with a 70.56 stroke average this season and posted three individual victories this spring.
Junior Eric Bae was honored for the second time, having also been named to the team in 2017. He had a 70.89 stroke average this season and earned his first collegiate victory at the Steelwood Collegiate Invitational in October.
Redshirt freshman Kengo Aoshima had a stroke average of 70.65 during his first season in the Wake Forest lineup. He had five top-10 finishes, including a season-best fourth place finish at the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate.
Freshman Eugenio Chacarra had a stroke average of 71.15 as he earned ACC Freshman of the Year honors. He led the team with six top-10 finishes during the season.
Freshman Alex Fitzpatrick had a stroke average of 71.38 during his first collegiate season. He had a streak of 12 consecutive rounds of par or better this spring, one shy of the school record, and capped his season with a top-15 finish at the NCAA Championships.
Wake Forest posted five victories in 2018-19, its most in a season since 1983-84. The Demon Deacons ended the year by reaching the match play portion of the NCAA Championships for the first time in program history.
