Deacs Open NCAA Norman Regional in Eighth Place

NORMAN, Okla. – The Wake Forest women's golf team opened play at the NCAA Norman Regional on Monday with the first round at the Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club. The Demon Deacons shot 2-over during the opening round and are tied for eighth place after 18 holes.

The top six finishers at the 54-hole event will advance to the NCAA Championships, held May 17-22 in Fayetteville, Ark. Florida is the first round leader at 4-under, one shot ahead of NC State at 3-under. There is a four-way tie for third place at 1-under with Texas, Texas Tech, Ole Miss and Mississippi State. Purdue is in seventh place at 1-over, followed by the Demon Deacons and Arizona State at 2-over.

Jennifer Kupcho and Emilia Migliaccio led the Deacs during the first round, each shooting a 1-under 71 on Monday. Siyun Liu shot a first round 73 and Vanessa Knecht posted a round of 75 to round out the scoring four for Wake Forest.

The Demon Deacons are looking to advance to the NCAA Championships for the second consecutive season. The NCAA Norman Regional continues Tuesday and concludes Wednesday at the Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club.
