
Deacs Advance to NCAA Women's Golf Championships

NORMAN, Okla. – The Wake Forest women's golf team advanced to the 2019 NCAA Championships with a second place finish at the NCAA Norman Regional. The Demon Deacons shot 1-over during Wednesday's final round at the Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club to finish the event at even par.
The top six finishers at the event advanced to the NCAA Championships, held May 17-22 in Fayetteville, Ark. Texas won the regional at 9-under, with Florida and Wake Forest tied for second at even par. Purdue (2-over), Arizona State (4-over) and Ole Miss (7-over) also finished in the top six to advance to the NCAA Championships.
Wake Forest is making its second consecutive appearance at the NCAA Championships and its 16th overall appearance.
"These young ladies came together and did what they needed to do to advance to the NCAA Championship," said head coach Kim Lewellen. "We are looking forward to getting out to Arkansas next week and compete against the best teams in the nation."
Siyun Liu led the Deacs on the final day, shooting a 2-under 70 during the final round. She finished the event at 2-under, T-8th on the individual leaderboard.
Emilia Migliaccio and Jennifer Kupcho both finished T-15th at even par for the championship after posting final rounds of 73 and 76, respectively. Vanessa Knecht shot a final round 1-under 71 and Letizia Bagnoli had a final round 75 to round out the Demon Deacon lineup.
The Demon Deacons improved each round of the tournament, sitting outside the cut line at T-8th after the first round. They moved up to fourth place after the second round before moving up to T-2nd on the final day.
The NCAA Championships begin May 17 at the Blessings Golf Course in Fayetteville, Ark. The top eight teams from the four rounds of stroke play (May 17-20) will play in match play (May 21-22) for the NCAA title.
