NORMAN, Okla. – The Wake Forest men's golf team had four players earn All-America honors from the Golf Coaches Association of America. Cameron Young was named to the second team, while Eric Bae, Lee Detmer and Alex Fitzpatrick were named honorable mention.
"I am extremely proud that we had four All-Americans this season," said head coach Jerry Haas. "It is a great time to be a Demon Deacon. We have a lot of good things going and we are looking to carry the momentum from this season into next year and beyond. Our recruiting has gone well, the team is motivated and hungry after getting a taste of NCAA match play, and we are looking forward to more NCAA success in the future."
The four selections were the most for the Demon Deacons since 1984, when Billy Andrade was a third team All-American and Haas, Chris Kite and Mark Thaxton earned honorable mention honors.
Young was honored for the second time, having earned honorable mention honors last season. He led the Demon Deacons with a 70.56 stroke average during his senior season and posted three individual victories this spring.
Bae, Detmer and Fitzpatrick all earned All-America honors for the first time in their careers, becoming the 45th, 46th and 47th Demon Deacon golfers in history to be named an All-American.
Detmer, a senior, capped his collegiate career by leading the Deacs at the NCAA Championship. His fourth-place finish was the best finish at the NCAA Championship by a Wake Forest golfer since 2006. Bae, a junior, had a 70.89 stroke average this season and earned his first collegiate victory at the Steelwood Collegiate Invitational in October. Fitzpatrick had a stroke average of 71.38 during his freshman season and capped his year with a top-15 finish at the NCAA Championship.
In addition to the All-Americans, the GCAA announced the Eugenio Chacarra was one of five players named to the organization's All-Freshman Team and Haas was the organization's East Region Coach of the Year.
Wake Forest posted five victories in 2018-19, its most in a season since 1983-84. The Demon Deacons ended the year by reaching the match play portion of the NCAA Championships for the first time in program history.
