Cameron Young Qualifies for U.S. Open

PURCHASE, N.Y. – Recent Wake Forest graduate Cameron Young qualified for his first U.S. Open by winning a sectional qualifier on Monday in New York. Young shot 4-under over his 36 holes at Century Country Club and Old Oaks Country Club to win the event and be one of four qualifiers from the site.
Young will make his U.S. Open debut later this month when the tournament is held June 13-16 at Pebble Beach Golf Links in Pebble Beach, Calif.
"It has been a dream to play in the U.S. Open for as long as I can remember," said Young. "I missed out on last year's U.S. Amateur at Pebble Beach, so I could not be more excited to get out there and play next week."
Young won the 73-player sectional tournament as he was the only player to finish the 36-hole event under par. In the morning, he shot a 1-under 69 at Old Oaks before posting a 3-under 68 in the afternoon at Century.
The 2019 U.S. Open field will include two Wake Forest alumni, as Young joins 2012 U.S. Open champion Webb Simpson at the tournament.
