Five Deacons Named to ITA All-Academic Team

TEMPE, Ariz. – The Wake Forest women's tennis team was named an ITA All-Academic Team, while five individuals notched ITA Scholar-Athlete honors, the organization announced Thursday (July 18).
Representing the Deacons is freshman Anna Brylin, sophomore Eliza Omirou, junior Chandler Carter and seniors Emma Davis and Anna Ulyashchenko. Davis earned the honor for the third consecutive year, while Carter posted her second straight year on the list.
"I'm very proud of this team for having had such an exceptional year in the classroom and on the court," head coach Jeff Wyshner said. "We reached our goals of cracking the top-25 and of earning the ITA All-Academic Team Award again. We also had five individuals with a GPA above 3.5 for the year. We believe deeply in the idea that as you learn to excel in one are that it should carry over to other areas of your life, and last year's team very much embodied that principle."
The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale). All varsity letter winners should be factored into the cumulative team GPA for the current academic year (including fall 2018 and spring 2019.
Brylin tallied a 14-9 overall record and a 10-5 dual match mark during her freshman campaign. She went 6-3 in her last 10 matches. In the fall, Brylin notched a 6-3, 1-6, 7-6 (12) win over Danielle Wolf of Ohio State. On the doubles courts, she went 20-7 overall including 8-2 with partner Ulyashchenko.
Omirou, a business and enterprise management major, posted a 21-11 overall record on the year. She tallied a team-best 18 wins in dual match play and went 10-4 in the ACC, spending most of her time on court three. In doubles, Omirou and partner MC Meredith posted an overall record of 20-6.
Carter, a native of Dallas, Texas, went 17-10 overall and 14-5 in dual play. She joined Davis on the top court in doubles posting a 22-16 overall record. During the season, she earned a No. 122 ranking in singles and was consistently in the top-50 in the doubles rankings. Carter is majoring in communications.
Davis, who earned a degree in business and enterprise management in May, finished her Wake Forest career with 105 singles victories, eighth all-time in Wake Forest women's tennis history. She helped lead the Deacons to four consecutive trips to the NCAA Tournament and earned back-to-back trips to the NCAA Individual Championships as a junior and senior. The Cohasset, Mass., native recorded a 23-14 overall record with a 16-9 mark in dual match play, all in the top spot. In doubles, Davis and partner Carter went 16-11 in dual contests.
Ulyashchenko graduated in May with a degree in psychology. She went 15-20 overall, playing most of her matches on court two. In doubles, Ulyashchenko notched an 18-10 record, including a 9-6 record on court three during the spring season. She earned her highest career-ranking at No. 122.
