WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – No. 13 Northwestern scored a pair of fourth quarter goals to break a scoreless tie and hand No. 15 Wake Forest a 2-0 defeat on Sunday afternoon at Kentner Stadium. 
 
The Wildcats' Bente Baekers scored with an assist from Saar De Breij off a defender deflection to put Northwestern up 1-0 just 2:39 into the fourth period.  Northwestern added a goal nine minutes later as Lakin Barry scored on a cross from the left side with an assist to Maren Seidel.
 
Wake Forest (1-4) goalkeeper Isla Bint made four saves in the contest.  Wake Forest outshot the Wildcats 9-8 with Northwestern goalkeeper Florien Marcussen making one save.
 
Nat Friedman, Anne van Hoof, and Maggie Dickman all managed two shots.  Kelsey Gill had Wake Forest's lone shot on goal.
 
Wake Forest will open ACC play on Friday, September 20 when the Demon Deacons host Boston College at Kentner Stadium at 6 p.m.
