LAKE ELMO, Minn. – The Wake Forest women's golf team continued its strong play at the ANNIKA Intercollegiate, extending its lead on Tuesday during the second round at the Royal Golf Club. The Demon Deacons, playing in the elite event for the first time, shot 6-under for the second straight day and hold the 36-hole lead at 12-under par.
In a field that includes seven of the top 14 teams in the nation, including the top three, the ninth-ranked Demon Deacons will take a six-shot lead into the final round over top-ranked USC, who is in second at 6-under. Arkansas is third at 4-under, while Texas is fourth at 3-under.
"We continued to play very good golf today," said head coach Kim Lewellen. "We had three players shoot under par today on a challenging course, including both of our freshmen. It has been a team effort over the first two rounds and will need another strong round tomorrow."
Freshman Rachel Kuehn, playing her first collegiate event, continues to hold the individual lead. She shot a 5-under 67 for the second straight day and has a four-shot lead on the individual leaderboard at 10-under for the tournament.
Siyun Liu is also in the individual top 10, posting a second round 70 to finish the day T-8th at 3-under. Lauren Walsh is T-13th at 1-under after posting a round of 71 on Tuesday. Emilia Migliaccio is at 2-over for the tournament after a second-round 74, while Vanessa Knecht rounded out the lineup with a 78 on Tuesday.
The ANNIKA Intercollegiate concludes Wednesday at the Royal Golf Club in suburban Saint Paul.
