Strong Field to Compete in Second Old Town Club Collegiate Invitational

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The top-ranked Wake Forest men's golf team will host the second annual Old Town Club Collegiate Invitational on Monday and Tuesday at the home course of Demon Deacon golf. Play begins at 7:30 a.m. each day and admission is free.

Play begins both days at 7:30 a.m., with first and second round action on Monday and third round action on Tuesday.

This year's 13-team field includes five teams ranked in the latest Golfweek Top 20. Joining the top-ranked Demon Deacons are No. 7 Louisville, the tournament's defending champion, No. 8 Washington, No. 13 Penn State and No. 17 West Virginia. Augusta, Cincinnati, East Carolina, Georgia Southern, Loyola (Md.), Rutgers, Virginia Tech and Yale round out the field.

"We are so fortunate to have a place like Old Town Club as our home course," said head coach Jerry Haas. "Last year's inaugural tournament was a huge success and we are sure that this year's event will be even better. Our goal is to continue to grow this tournament into one of the elite events on the collegiate golf calendar. We wouldn't be able to host this event without the tremendous support of Old Town Club, its members, the Wake Forest athletic department and the golf community of the Triad. We appreciate all the staff and volunteers who make this a first-class tournament."

Old Town Club has served as the official home course of Wake Forest golf for many decades. Like Wake Forest, Old Town also maintains a rich golf tradition. Located immediately next door to the University campus, this 1939 Perry Maxwell masterpiece has just recaptured the attention of the golf world following a 2013 restoration by famed architects, Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw.

The restoration served as a catalyst for one of the biggest jumps ever in Golfweek magazine's annual rankings. In 2014, Old Town catapulted an unprecedented 43 places up the chart to the 29th position in the country. That's the largest leap by any "classical" course in the history of the rankings. Still today, Old Town continues to climb to No. 23 on Golfweek's prestigious listing.

The results are universally glowing. Old Town also landed at No. 59 on GOLF Magazine's biennial list of the Top 100 golf courses in the country. In 2018, Old Town also secured its first World 100 ranking and is now listed at No. 40 in North America.

Louisville won the inaugural Old Town Club Collegiate Invitational in 2018, shooting 30-under to edge Wake Forest by one shot. That event was the first collegiate tournament at the club since the 1962 ACC Championship.

Admission to the tournament is free. The tournament is still looking for volunteers to assist during Tuesday's final round. Volunteers can sign up by clicking here.
