Both teams maintained their undefeated records.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- No. 25 Wake Forest and VCU played to a scoreless draw, 0-0, at Spry Stadium on Thursday night.
Both the Demon Deacons and Rams maintained their undefeated records, each moving to 4-0-1 overall.
VCU held a 17-10 advantage in shots and 5-2 lead in corners. Wake Forest though, led in shots on goal, 5-3.
"We didn't show up tonight. They totally outplayed us," head coach Tony da Luz said. "Statistically, physically and tactically they were way better than us. That's what happens when teams come in here and give absolutely 100 percent. We're really lucky to come out of this game with a tie."
Meghan Kennedy made three saves including one from point-blank range, as she posted 110 scoreless minutes in goal to record her first solo shutout and Wake Forest's fourth clean sheet as a team.
"I think we can learn that if we don't show up and compete at a bare minimum, we have a good chance to lose the game," da Luz added. "Meghan Kennedy absolutely saved us there. We had a couple chances here and there to finish the game, but we weren't good enough."
Abby McNamara led the team with three shots, while Sofia Rossi and Hayley Younginer put two shots on goal apiece.
The Deacs are back in action Sunday at 1 p.m. against UNCW on ACCNX.
