Fitzpatrick Competes at 2019 Walker Cup

LIVERPOOL, England – Wake Forest sophomore Alex Fitzpatrick competed for Great Britain and Ireland this weekend at the 2019 Walker Cup at Royal Liverpool. The United States won the event by a score of 15.5-10.5 to retain the trophy.
The bi-annual competition, which began in 1922, features a team of 10 top amateur players from the United States against a team of 10 top amateur players from Great Britain and Ireland.
Fitzpatrick split his four matches on the weekend, winning two and losing two. On Saturday, he teamed with Conor Purcell for a victory in the first foursome matches. He later won his first singles match, posting a 2-up win over Cole Hammer. On Sunday, he and Purcell fell in their foursomes match and he dropped his singles match to Isaiah Salinda, 2-up.
Fitzpatrick was the third Demon Deacon to compete for Great Britain and Ireland, joining Eoghan O'Connell in 1989 and Paul McBride in 2017. Wake Forest has also had 18 players compete on the American team at the Walker Cup.
