
Demon Deacons Top Georgia Tech, 65-60, in ACC Home Opener

Wake Forest has won five of its last six games including back-to-back in conference play
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. –The Wake Forest women's basketball team grabbed its second straight win on Sunday, defeating Georgia Tech, 65-60, in Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum.
The Demon Deacons (9-5, 2-1 ACC) have now won five of their last six games and handed the Yellow Jackets (11-3, 2-1 ACC) their first conference loss of the season.
After pounding the paint in the first half, it opened up Wake Forest from behind the arc in the second half. The Deacs knocked down six of their 10 three-point attempts in the second half.
In total, they hit eight threes in the game just one shy of the Demon Deacons season high. Gina Conti finished Sunday with a game-high 21 points including four three pointers. Ivana Raca posted a double-double with 19 points and 12 rebounds.
Conti, who tallied four assists in the game, entered the top 10 in program history in career assists. She now has 302 in her three seasons in Winston-Salem.
"We talked about how good Georgia Tech is because they are long," head coach Jen Hoover said. "We knew we were going to get open shots. We just had to be confident to hit open shots because they don't really overextend themselves and they don't foul a lot. Ivana Raca hit a couple big shots and Gina Conti hit some big ones too."
The Demon Deacons never trailed in the first half, jumping out to an 11-6 lead in the first six minutes of play. Ivana Raca and Gina Conti accounted for nine of the first 11 points.
Wake Forest was able to work the ball in the paint in the Yellow Jackett, scoring 18 of their 25 first half points inside. Christina Morra led all first half scorers with nine points while adding four rebounds.
Heading into the halftime interval, the Deacs held a 25-24 advantage.

The Demon Deacons continue their homestand on Thursday when they play host to Clemson. Wake Forest has won nine of the last 11 games in the series against the Tigers.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Deacs took the lead on their opening offensive possession when Gina Conti drove to the rim and laid it in. By the end of the first quarter, they had built up a 7-point advantage with the help of 10 points in the paint. Wake also made the most of its second-chance opportunities, scoring seven points off eight offensive rebounds.
- Taking a 17-10 lead heading into the second quarter, the Yellow Jackets quickly climbed back into the game. Going on a 7-0 run to tie the game.
- Wake Forest continued to feed the ball inside as Christina Morra scored six points in the second quarter all coming from inside of the paint. The Demon Deacons took a 25-24 lead into the halftime interval.
- With Wake Forest's effectiveness inside in the first half, it opened up the Demon Deacons from behind the arc. They knocked down a trio of three pointers to extend the lead to 32-27 midway through the third quarter.
- The duo of Conti and Raca combined for 29 of the 40 second half points for Wake Forest. The combined to go 6-of-8 from behind the arc while hitting 7-of-10 shots from the free throw line.
- The Demon Deacons salted the game away at the line in the fourth quarter, connecting on 12-of-14 shots from the charity stripe to ice the 65-60 victory over Georgia Tech.
The Demon Deacons continue their homestand on Thursday when they play host to Clemson. Wake Forest has won nine of the last 11 games in the series against the Tigers.
