Wake Forest had a commanding 22-1 advantage in shots.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Wake Forest conceded just one shot and eventually struck with a second-half goal from Ryanne Brown in a 1-0 victory over Miami at Spry Stadium on Thursday night.

In the 68th minute, Carrie McIntire delivered a long through ball which sent Brown on a breakaway. She beat the only defender in her way and fired a shot past the keeper and inside the far post for what proved to be the game-winner.

The Demon Deacons (1-2-1, 1-1-1 ACC) were in command throughout the game, outshooting the Hurricanes (0-4-0, 0-3-0 ACC) by a 22-1 margin.

"Ideally we would put some chances away earlier and be able to pull some players off," head coach Tony da Luz said. "We've got a tough game on Sunday, so we've got to manage tonight's game better and finish our chances. But it was a good performance, good tempo from the start, we played fast. We just needed to be more precise."

Wake Forest was led by its upperclassmen group of Brown, Hannah Betfort, Giovanna DeMarco and Sofia Rossi, who combined for 13 of the Deacons' 22 shots.

"They fought really, really hard. They played like leaders," da Luz added. "Just from a physical standpoint alone, they covered a ton of ground and fought for every ball. We need that, we need the older players to be able to make that impact in these ACC games."

Madison Howard and Mia Raben combined for the shutout in goal, with Raben saving the only shot on goal Wake Forest faced.

The Deacs are back at home on Sunday at 1 p.m., playing host to No. 2 Florida State on ACCNX.
