This is the first time Hernandez has earned the weekly honor, doing so after an impressive game-winning strike against Duke.
GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Following a breathtaking game-winning goal to give No. 2 Wake Forest a 2-1 victory over Duke on Friday night, sophomore Omar Hernandez has been named ACC Co-Offensive Player of the Week the league has announced. Hernandez shares the award with Clemson's Grayson Barber.
This is the first time Hernandez has earned the weekly honor and the third time this season a Demon Deacon has done so, as he joins junior Kyle Holcomb (Oct. 5) and sophomore Calvin Harris (Sept. 28).
Hernandez, who was making his first start of the 2020 season, scored on a free kick in the 85th minute, as the Dalton, Ga., native bent a direct free kick outside of the 18-yard box past Duke goalkeeper Will Pulisic.
The goal was his first against an ACC opponent and the first game-winning strike of his career.
So far this season, Hernandez has tallied four points on two assists and a goal.
Wake Forest returns to action on Friday afternoon when the Demon Deacons face current-No. 3 Clemson at Spry Stadium. The match will begin at 5 p.m. and be televised on RSN.
