Wake Forest Adds Non-Conference on New Year’s Eve

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- The Wake Forest men's basketball program has added Division II Catawba to its non-conference slate. The Demon Deacons and the Indians will face off on Dec. 31 in Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum.
Tip off is set for 3 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on ACC Network.
"Our student-athletes and staff are excited to get back on the court and compete next week," head coach Steve Forbes said. "I appreciate Coach Rob Perron, Catawba's staff, our Deputy AD Lindsey Babcock and Director of Operations Frank Davis for their partnership and coordination in working through this process. We are glad that our student-athletes will get some time with their families over the next two days and we're fired up to get back on the court this weekend to prepare for the Indians and the start of ACC play next week!"
The Deacs are currently 2-0 and this will be the program's first contest since Nov. 27. This is the first time Wake Forest has started a season 2-0 since the 2016-17 season and the fourth time in head Coach Steve Forbes' career he has started 2-0.
Catawba is a member of the South Atlantic Conference (SAC) of the NCAA Division II level and is located just 45 minutes south of Wake Forest in Salisbury, North Carolina.
The Indians are led by head coach Rob Perron, who is in his seventh season. They finished the 2019-20 season with a 20-10 (14-8) record and finished third in the SAC. They are currently 2-3 for the 2020-21 season and coming off a 83-81 overtime win against Mars Hill on Dec. 19.
