Ivana Raca leads the way with 23 points as the Demon Deacons wins fourth consecutive game at Littlejohn Coliseum

CLEMSON, S.C. – The Wake Forest women's basketball team swept the regular season series with a 66-52 victory over Clemson on Thursday night.

The Demon Deacons (13-12, 6-8 ACC) have now won 11 of the last 13 games in the series against the Tigers (7-18, 3-11 ACC) including the last four games played in Littlejohn Coliseum.

A key stretch of 6:41 around halftime helped Wake put the game out of reach. The Demon Deacons held Clemson scoreless over the last 4:25 of the second quarter and the first 2:16 of the third quarter.

During that time, the Deacs went on a 16-0 scoring run. Their lead went from four points to 20 points, the largest of the game at 44-24 with 7:44 remaining in the third quarter.

Ivana Raca, who posted 24 points in the first matchup against Clemson, ended the night with a game-high 23 points to go along with five rebounds and four assists.

Alex Sharp led the team in rebounding for the fifth consecutive game tying Alexandria Scruggs with seven boards. Scruggs filled out the stat sheet with eight points, seven rebounds, five assists and three steals.

"From the beginning to the end, I really felt we locked into the scouting report and focused to the end," head coach Jen Hoover said. "There was just a different sense about this team tonight. For me, it really began at shootaround today when we talked about what legacy the seniors wanted to leave here and what our younger players want to establish."

With the help of a hot start from Raca, Wake Forest built up an early lead. The Belgrade, Serbia native notched 10 points in the first quarter. It helped Wake to a 21-14 advantage and the Deacs controlled the game the rest of the way.

Wake Forest pushed the lead up to double digits in the second half. Over the final 4:25 of the second quarter, the Demon Deacons held the Tigers without a point.

This helped Wake finish the first half on a 7-0 run as it took a 35-24 lead into the locker room. Scruggs, Sharp and Raca combined to score 28 first-half points.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • With the help of a strong start from Ivana Raca, the Demon Deacon offense got off to a fast start. The junior, who had 24 points in the first matchup against the Tigers, dropped 10 points in the first quarter to help Wake to a 21-14 advantage.
  • With the shot clock running down and 2:10 remaining in the first half, Gina Conti got the ball just left of the half court logo. She leaned and launched and banked in the three as the buzzer sounded to put Wake in front 33-24.
  • Wake Forest continued to increase the lead, pushing their advantage to double-digits with under two minutes left in the half as Christina Morra sunk a pair of free throws. The Deacs took a 35-24 lead into the locker room. The Demon Deacons held Clemson scoreless over the final 4:25 of the first half.
  • The Tigers would not score again until the 7:44 mark of the third quarter. By this point, Wake Forest built up a 20-point lead. The Demon Deacons scored on their first three possessions of the second half.
  • It was Wake Forest's largest lead of the game as it cruised the rest of the way to its fourth consecutive win inside of Littlejohn Coliseum.
  • Ivana Raca and Ona Udoh scored all 11 of the Demon Deacon's fourth quarter points. Both finished in double figures along with senior Alex Sharp, who posted 14 points.
  • For the fifth consecutive game, Sharp led the team in rebounding and Raca posted a team-high 23 points. Over her two games against the Tigers this season, Raca averaged 23.5 points.
