HOUSTON, Texas – The Wake Forest men's golf team takes home a second-place finish from the All-American Intercollegiate.
After shooting even or under par for all three rounds, sophomore Alex Fitzpatrick took home his highest collegiate finish at T3. His tournament scorecard is highlights by 13 birdies over three days and an eagle in his second round. Freshman Mark Power finished two strokes behind Fitzpatrick for a tie for seventh. Five birdies in his final round aided in his recovery from a rough second day and moved him up six spots on the leaderboard.
Sophomore Eugenio Chacarra fired his tournament-low round on the final day as well. Five birdies, three of which came on the second nine, shot him up 14 spots on the board to finish in T16. Senior Eric Bae also cracked the top 25 on the final day, carding a two-under score of 69 to finish T23, up 15 spots from where he ended round two. In his first appearance in the lineup, freshman Fulton Smith finished T36. Playing as an individual, junior Marco Steyn jumped eight spots on the final day to finish T42, just one stroke behind Smith.
From the Coach
"Finishing 20 under is a good way to start the spring season. The golf course is a very difficult course and we played very well today. Sam Houston State had an outstanding week and as a coach I wish there was one more day! But there is not. We're proud of these guys, they were very competitive this week and Wake Frost had the best final round so there is a lot to be said for that. Go Deacs!" – Head Coach Jerry Haas
