WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Wake Forest men's golf team is headed to Myrtle Beach, SC for their second spring tournament.
The General Hackler Championship, hosted by Coastal Carolina, is being played at The Dunes Golf and Beach Club in Myrtle Beach. The Deacons are going into the tournament ranked sixth in the latest Golfweek rankings and seventh in the latest Golfstat rankings. The Deacons last took home the General Hackler title in 2017.
Senior Charlie Kennerly and freshman Fulton Smith will be competing as individuals in the Bash at the Beach tournament, hosted by Appalachian State at The Surf Golf and Beach Club.
Last Time Out
The Deacons are coming off a second place finish a few weeks ago at the All-American Intercollegiate in Houston, Texas. Wake had four players finish inside the top 25, all of whom are returning to the lineup this week, in addition to junior Parker Gillam. Gillam is coming off his first appearance on the PGA Tour after earning an exemption in November and playing in the PGA Tour Puerto Rico Open a few weeks ago.
Course Information: The tournament is being played at the Par 72, 7,233-yard Dunes Golf and Beach Club. Each hole on the course has its own descriptive name to give golfers an idea of what to expect before they tee off. "Waterloo", hole 13, is the signature hole of the Dunes Course. Famous worldwide, it is a legendary hole where Lake Singleton comes into play. "Waterloo" has received every accolade and award as one of the greatest golf holes in the world.
Format: 54-hole stroke play where teams play three rounds over two days. Tee times will start at 7:40 a.m. ET on Monday morning from holes 1 and 10 with 36 holes to play. Tuesday's final 18 holes will begin at 7:40 a.m. ET from holes 1 and 10.
From the Coach
"We are very excited to go back to the Dunes Club and to the Surf Club. We'll have every member of the squad competing for the Demon Deacons this week! The General Hackler has a very strong field so we will need to be at our best to compete. The weather looks great and we're looking forward to a good week of golf. Let's go Deacs!" – Head Coach Jerry Haas
