GREENSBORO, N.C. – Wake Forest junior center Olivier Sarr was named ACC Men's Basketball Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday afternoon. In addition, Sarr also was named the Lute Olson National Player of the Week by CollegeInsider.com.
Sarr averaged 27.5 points and 12.0 rebounds last week as the Demon Deacons posted a pair of home victories. In the 113-101 double overtime win over No. 7 Duke on Tuesday, Sarr set a career high with 25 points on 7-9 shooting from the floor and 11-14 from the line. He drew 10 fouls in the game and worked to foul out three Blue Devil post players.
In Saturday's 84-73 win over Notre Dame, Sarr outdueled ACC double-double leader John Mooney , setting new career highs of 30 points and 17 rebounds. He also set career highs of 12-16 FGs and was 6-7 from the line in the game as he posted his ninth double-double of the season. Sarr joined John Collins (2017 at Duke) and Rodney Rogers (1993 vs. Florida State) as the only Deacons in the past 50 years to have a 30-and-15 game against an ACC opponent.
"Olivier had two really good games last week," said head coach Danny Manning. "He has really improved his presence in the post and that is a testament of his hard work in practice with our staff. Being able to go over both shoulders and the use of his left hand has made him a lot tougher to guard when he is in the post. This is a well-deserved honor and I am happy and proud of him."
The honor is the second of the season for Sarr, who was also honored on Dec. 2 after his play at the Wooden Legacy. He is the first Demon Deacon to win the award twice in a season since John Collins in 2017. It is the third ACC Player of the Week honor for Wake Forest this season (Chaundee Brown was honored on Dec. 16), the most in a season for the Deacs since four ACC Player of the Week honors in 2004-05 (Chris Paul-twice, Justin Gray, Eric Williams).
The Demon Deacons conclude the regular season this week with a pair of road games, visiting North Carolina on Tuesday and NC State on Friday.
