Kuehn Leads Deacons to Top of Leaderboard After Day One of Darius Rucker
3/6/2020 4:47:00 PM | Women's Golf
HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC – The Wake Forest women's golf team currently sits five strokes ahead of the rest of field after round one of the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate.
The Deacons had a rough start to the day, dropping as low as 12 in the 17-team field. The team fared much better on their second nine though, as Siyun Liu and Emilia Migliaccio had two birdies a piece and sophomore Vanessa Knecht birdied three of her last four holes for the day.
Freshman Rachel Kuehn led the way for Wake all day, never falling outside the top 10. Her lowest spot came heading into the turn when she sat T9 after back-to-back bogeys. She recovered nicely on the second nine, going bogey-free and sinking back-to-back birdies.
Team leaders Liu and Migliaccio are right behind the freshman. They're both at the top 10, sitting T10 with plenty of room to move up during tomorrow's second round, just three strokes off Kuehn's lead. Knecht's improvement on her second nine put her inside the top 25 at T21.
Second round tee times will begin tomorrow morning at 8:30.
