THE MATCHUPS
• After being away from their home court since Jan. 31, the Demon Deacons are back at the Wake Forest Tennis Center on Sunday afternoon. The are set to host the No. 1 team in the country in North Carolina. Last season, the Tar Heels advanced all the way to the NCAA Semifinals before falling to Stanford.
• This marks the fourth consecutive top-10 matchup for the Demon Deacons. Last year against North Carolina, Wake Forest fell, 7-0, in Capel Hill.
LAST TIME OUT
• Facing their second top-10 opponent of the weekend on the road, Wake Forest fell to No. 10 Georgia Tech, 6-1, on Sunday afternoon. The Demon Deacons were led by sophomore Saby Nihalani. She cruised to a straight-set ranked win en route to tie the match at 1-1.
• Squaring off against No. 110 Cohen, Nihalani took an early lead in the match, cruising to a 6-1 win in the opening frame. She continued to dominate in the second set, jumping out to a commanding 5-0 lead before closing out Cohen, 6-1, in the second set.
QUICK HITS
• Despite two losses this week, Wake Forest remained inside of the top 20 in both the ITA and USTA rankings. The Deacs are now No. 14 in the ITA and No. 19 in the USTA polls.
• In the singles rankings, Carolyn Campana rose into the top 20, coming in at No. 19 this week. On the doubles side, Eliza Omirou and MC Meredith became the eighth pairing in school history to rank inside of the top 10.
SCOUTING THE TAR HEELS
• North Carolina comes into the match with a perfect 16-0 record and a 4-0 mark in conference play.
• The Tar Heels have six players ranked in singles this week: Alexa Graham (3), Sara Daavettila (5), Cameron Morra (6), Alle Sanford (51), Makenna Jones (52) and Elizabeth Scotty (89).
• In doubles, three pairings rank inside of the top 15: Daavettila/Graham (4), Jones/Morra (8) and Jones/Sanford (15).
UP NEXT
• Wake Forest travels to Boston College on Friday for a 2 p.m. match.
• The Deacs are back in Winston-Salem on March 15 for a matchup with Notre Dame. First serve is set for noon at the Wake Forest Tennis Center.
