The opening tipoff of the WNBA season is on Saturday with the Aces set to start their season Sunday against Chicago Sky.
BRADENTON, Fla. – Former Wake Forest and current Las Vegas Aces forward Dearica Hamby is set to start the WNBA season this weekend.
Hamby is coming off the best season in her six-year pro career. The Marietta, Ga. native was named the 2019 Sixth Woman of the Year in the WNBA after having a career-high 11.0 points per game, 7.6 rebounds per game and 1.9 assists per game.
She helped the Aces to the semifinals of the WNBA Playoffs. En route to the semifinals, Hamby hit the game-winning half-court shot to advance past the Chicago Sky in the second round.
Hamby and the Aces open the 2020 campaign with a rematch of that second-round game as they take on the Sky Sunday at 3:00 p.m. (ET). It is the start of a 22-game regular season schedule that runs through September 12.
On the Sky's roster is another Jen Hoover product in forward Cheyenne Parker. During the 2011-12 season at High Point, Hoover helped groom Parker into one of the most dominant players in the conference. She averaged 13.0 points, 12.2 rebounds, 3.7 blocks and 2.1 steals per game that season.
