ITA Honors Wake Forest with Scholar Athlete and Team Academic Awards

TEMPE, Ariz. – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association named seven members of the Wake Forest men's tennis team to the ITA Scholar-Athlete list, as announced on Monday.

Sid Banthia, Bar Botzer, Brant Fenno, Juan Lopez De Azcona, Robert Maciag, Ryan Mueller and Charlie Parry all earned a spot on the list. The Deacs also received recognition from the ITA as a team being named one of the 186 All-Academic Team selections.

To be named an ITA Scholar-Athlete, one must meet the following requirements:

A grade point average of at least 3.5 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year
Listed on the institutional eligibility form

To be named an ITA All-Academic Team, programs must meet the following requirements:

A team grade point average of 3.2 or above (on a 4.00 scale),
All student-athletes included should be listed on the institutional eligibility form, and
All varsity letter winners should be factored into the cumulative team GPA for the current academic year

Coming off to back-to-back trips the NCAA Tournament Final, the Demon Deacons were just hitting their stride on the court before the end of the season. The No. 13 ranked squad was in the midst of a four-match winning streak including victories over No. 19 Oklahoma State and No. 24 Duke.

The Deacs held a perfect 9-0 record in home matches before the shutdown including a win in their lone ACC match of the season against Duke.
