The Matchup
• After 10 days off from competition, Wake Forest returns to action Thursday at 7 p.m., welcoming Miami to Winston Salem for a conference game on ACCNX.
Attendance Guidelines
• At this time, Spry Stadium will continue to be closed to the public. There will be a limited number of student-athlete families in the stands; however, the anticipated expansion from the Governor's office only applies to outdoor venues that can seat more than 10,000 fans. With that, Walt Chyzowych Alumni Hill will be able to host 50 fans for women's soccer with 20 of those allocated to Wake Forest students and the remaining 30 set up for general admission on a first come, first serve basis. Face coverings and physical distancing are required on the hill. Students will be awarded their spots on the hill through a weighted student ticket lottery through the new Screamin' Demon Rewards program.
Last Time Out
• The Demon Deacons picked up their first point of the season with a scoreless draw at Duke on Sept. 20. Madison Howard made one save and Mia Raben added a pair of stops as the duo combined for the shutout in goal.
• Wake Forest took five shots in the contest, including shots on goal from Ryanne Brown and Abby McNamara.
Quick Kicks
• Wake Forest and the ACC are set for a truncated fall season. The league will feature an eight-game conference schedule followed by the ACC Championship.
• The ACC is one of four conferences to play college soccer this fall, joined by the SEC, Big 12 and the Sun Belt.
• The NCAA is tentatively planning to hold the NCAA Soccer Championship in the spring. More details on that on page 2.
• Wake Forest's top returners include defender Hannah Betfort, a co-captain last season who led the squad with five assists; Ryanne Brown, who was tied for fourth on the team with nine points on three goals and three assists; and Giovanna DeMarco, who battled injuries last year but was an ACC All-Freshman Team pick in 2018.
• Tony da Luz is in his 24th season at the helm of Wake Forest. His Deacs have reached the NCAA Tournament in 19 of his 23 years.
Scouting The Hurricanes
• Miami was picked to finish 12th in the ACC and is still searching for its first goal of the season after losses to Clemson (4-0), Louisville (3-0) and Notre Dame (6-0) to open the year.
• The Hurricanes finished 2019 with a 6-9-2 overall mark, including 2-7-1 in the league.
Series History
• Wake Forest leads the all-time series by a 11-3-0 margin, including a perfect 8-0 mark inside Spry Stadium.
• The teams haven't faced off since 2017, when the Deacs claimed a 3-0 victory at home.
• Hannah Betfort, then a freshman, notched a goal and assist off the bench in 35 minutes of game action.
Looking Ahead
• Wake Forest is back at home on Sunday, welcoming No. 2 Florida State to campus for a 1 p.m. game.
