Wake Forest Opens Indoor Season at Virginia Tech for Two-Day Meet

The Demon Deacons travel to Blacksburg, Va. to open the indoor season at the Hokie Invitational.

BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Wake Forest Indoor Track & Field Team will travel to Blacksburg, Va., to open the 2021 season at this year's Hokie Invitational inside Virginia Tech's Rector Field House.

The two-day meet will take place on Friday and Saturday this weekend and marks the program's first appearance on the track since the ACC Indoor Track and Field Championships last February. Wake Forest did not compete in an outdoor meet last spring following the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Director of Track & Field John Hayes is sending 16 student-athletes to compete on Friday and Saturday, eight from each of the men's and women's teams.

The men's side consists of two runners, junior's Kenton Bachmann and Archie Wallis, and six field athletes including junior's Andrew White (weight throw) and Tony Jones (high jump), sophomore Connor Mathis (shot put, weight throw) and freshmen Mason Ellis (shot put, weight throw), Thomas Kitchell (shot put, weight throw) and Jacob Goldberg (weight throw).

The women's team will have eight competitors this weekend including veteran distance runners Hannah Brookover and Elise Wright, senior sprinter Cydney Delley and sophomore Aleeya Hutchins on the track. In the field events, redshirt junior Janese Lynch and junior Chanel Dawson will compete in the shot put, while sophomore Katrina Andreassen will appear in the weight throw. Additionally, rookie Addison Berry will make her Demon Deacon debut in both track and field events.

The Hokie Invitational will give Wake Forest's student-athletes a great opportunity to compete on the track as a team for the first time in close to a year, and serve as a great baseline for meets to come.
