Wake Forest Drops Sunday Dual Match at Tennessee

Anna Brylin defeats No. 85 Silva as the Deacs drop Sunday matinee against Lady Vols.
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Despite winning in doubles, the No. 16 Wake Forest women's tennis team fell at Tennessee, 5-2, on Sunday afternoon.
The Demon Deacons (2-2) got the day off to a fast start, grabbing the doubles point against the Lady Vols (5-1) with wins in the No. 1 and No. 3 matches. The pairing of Brooke Killingsworth and Anna Brylin continued to have a strong start to the 2021 campaign with a decisive 6-2 victory in the No. 1 doubles match.
The first point in the match came down to court three where Mia Ahmad and Peyton Pesavento secured it for the Deacs. After heading to a tiebreaker, the duo defeated the Tennessee pairing of Briggs and Mertena 7-6 (7-4).
In singles play, Anna Brylin powered her way to another straight-set win, picking up a ranked victory over No. 85 Silva in the No. 3 singles match.
It was the only victory for the Demon Deacons in singles play as Wake Forest fell in the remaining matches. Killingsworth again nearly grabbed her first ranked win of her career, taking No. 52 Mertena to three sets.
