Demon Deacons in Second Place after First Day of Play at the Tar Heel Invite

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The Wake Forest women's golf team sits in second place on the team leaderboard after the first day of play at Ruth's Chris Tar Heel Invite.
Three Deacs sit inside the top 20 with Rachel Kuehn and Carolina Chacarra leading the way at T9. Kuehn had two birdies on her first nine to sit even at the turn. She came out of the turn to register back-to-back birdies on holes 10 and 11 and birdied hole 14 before the day was done. Chacarra tallied four birdies on her front nine and made the turn at three under par. She and Kuehn each finished two under par with a first-round score of 70.
Mimi Rhodes rounds out the Deacs inside the top 20 as she finished day one T18. Two birdies and a bogey on her first nine had her at one under par at the turn and nine straight pars on her second nine helped her finish the day with a one under par score of 71.
Virunpat Olankitkunchai finished inside the top 30 after day one with an even-par 72. A single bogey on her second nine evened out the scorecard after she recorded two birdies and a bogey on her first nine holes of the day. Lauren Walsh is currently one over par and T39 after the first 18 holes. Vanessa Knecht is playing as an individual and sits T27 next to Olankitkunchai with an even scorecard after round one.
Saturday's second round will begin at 8:30. Wake Forest will go off the first tee starting at 10:20 in 10-minute intervals. Playing as an individual, Vanessa Knecht will tee off at 9:20 off the 10th tee.
