The Demon Deacons dropped their first home match since September.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Wake Forest suffered its third ACC loss of the season on Friday, falling to No. 8 Duke at Spry Stadium in the ACC action, 2-0.
Duke (10-2-1, 4-2-1 ACC), who was voted to go fourth in the ACC preseason rankings as voted on by league's coaches, got goals from freshman Michelle Cooper and graduate Tess Boade.
The Blue Devils came out hot with Cooper sneaking through the back line and working past Kaitlyn Parks seven minutes into the match.
Boade put Duke up 2-0 at the 22-minute mark, driving a ball in from outside the box.
Wake Forest got a couple crosses into the box in the closing minutes of the half, but was unable to convert, trailing 2-0 at the half.
The Deacs kept the pressure on, seeing opportunities with free kicks and a couple chances inside the box, but couldn't add to its tally.
Tony Time with Coach da Luz
"We played scared and passive. I thought Duke was an awesome team and I think they are the best team in the country. If you don't put some challenge on them you are not going to touch the ball in a long time. That's how we spent the first 35 minutes chasing the ball around. You can't beat good teams when you do that. I thought the second group went into the half and got us back into the game. They did a great job being hungry and competing."
