Wake Forest Comeback Falls Short in OT

10/2/2021 9:49:00 PM | Women's Soccer

The Demon Deacons dropped its first road match of the season 2-1 in overtime at Louisville.

LOUISVILLE, KY -- Wake Forest dropped a stunning 2-1 loss in overtime to Louisville Saturday night at Lynn Stadium. Sophomore forward Emma Hiscock tallied the golden goal for the Cardinals in the 98th minute to hand the Deacs their second loss on the season.

The game-winner was scored off an Louisville counter attack in OT, as Hisock's first shot was blocked by Demon Deacon keeper Kaitlyn Parks. The deflected shot landed back at the feet of Hiscock where she scored into an empty net.

Louisville (7-2-1, 3-1-0 ACC) edged the Deacs in shot attempts 21-19 as Parks faced 11 shots on goal. Wake Forest held a 9-7 edge in corner kicks for the match.

Following a 78-minute defensive struggle for both sides, Louisville broke through for a 1-0 lead as Savina Zamborini punched in first collegiate goal.

Trailing 1-0 late in the second half, Wake Forest equalized the match on fifth year forward Hulda Arnarsdottir's third goal in the last three games. The Reykjavik, Iceland native collected a deflected ball off of Sofia Rossi's woodwork shot and struck the back of the net in the 86th minute to tie the match.

Tony Time with Coach da Luz
"It was an intense ACC match, I thought we created some good chances and competed well. We showed grit to tie the game but it wasn't meant to be. (Kaitlyn) Parks and (Nikayla) Small were exceptional tonight. We now prepare for Miami at Spry on Thursday. We will bounce back from this."
