No. 16 Wake Forest rose up the leaderboard for the second consecutive day, finishing higher than five top-25 teams in the field.
ALPHARETTA, Ga. -- With another strong day on Sunday, the No. 16 Wake Forest men's golf finished inside of the top three at the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate to wrap its fall slate of tournaments.
In a field that included eight of the top-25 teams in the nation according to GolfStat, the Demon Deacons finished higher than five of them. The Deacs were also the highest of five Atlantic Coast Conference teams including hosts Georgia Tech.
Wake Forest was led by a pair of 4-under-par rounds from Mark Power and Marshall Meisel, seeing the duo rise up the individual leaderboard and helping the Demon Deacons pass No. 21 Tennessee on the team leaderboard.
Power and Meisel both got off to strong starts as they were both under par by the second hole where they remained for the rest of the round. By the turn, they helped Wake Forest to a score of 8-under-par, one of the best scores on the course at the time.
Meisel finished the week tied for 16th at 5-under-par for the weekend, his second top-20 finish of the fall with the other coming at the Old Town Club Collegiate in late September.
Power rose up 20 spots on the leaderboard as his 68 (-4) helped him finish in a tie for 37th at even par for the week. In total, four of the five Demon Deacons finished the week at or below par.
Alex Fitzpatrick, who was in contention for the individual title all weekend, placed second in the event with the help of his third under-par round of the weekend. Fitzpatrick ended the weekend at 15-under-par, finishing higher than 22 of the top 100 collegiate golfers, according to the latest GolfStat rankings.
From Coach Haas:
"It was a very solid week and another really competitive field. Except for a few holes, we would've been right up amongst the leaders. We should end the fall with 40+ wins and only 11 losses. I am very proud of these guys. They work extremely hard. We need to continue that into the offseason as we have a big spring ahead. Thank you for following us and Go Deacons."
