Chacarra, Knecht Lead Deacs on Day One of Landfall Tradition

WILMINGTON, N.C. - The Wake Forest women's golf team sits five strokes off the lead after the first round of the Landfall Tradition, hosted by UNC Wilmington.
Freshman Carolina Chacarra started off the day with back-to-back birdies on her first two holes of the day, followed by eight straight pars. After making the turn at two under par, she snak a birdie on the 18th hole to finish the day one over par. Senior Vanessa Knecht also finished the first round at one over par. After a bogey on her second hole of the day, she sank two birdies before the turn to start her second nine at one under par. A birdie on the par-three 16th helped her get back to just one over par to close out the day.
Sophomore Mimi Rhodes had nine straight pars to make the turn sitting even and started her second nine with a par on 10. Birdies on two of her final four holes, 16 and 18, helped her finish the day two over par. Junior Rachel Kuehn also finished two over par. She made seven straight pars to start the day and a birdie on 10 kept her even to start the second nine. Another par on 18 to close out the day kept her at two over on the round. Virunpat Olankitkunchai birdied two of her last four holes of the day to also finish two-over for the first round.
Round two will begin at 8:30 Saturday morning. Wake Forest's tee times will begin at 8:30 in nine-minute intervals off the first tee. The Deacs will be paired with Virginia Tech and Michigan State.
