Deacs Hosting No. 17 Virginia Tech in Key ACC Battle

Wake Forest and No. 17 Virginia Tech will face off in an important ACC match at Spry Stadium.

WINSTON-SALEM, NC -- Wake Forest women's soccer is ready to host No. 17 Virginia Tech in a key Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) match on Sunday at Spry Stadium.
 
Kick-off is scheduled for 5 p.m. and the match will air live via ACC Network. Live stats will be found by HERE, and fans can follow @WakeWSoccer on Twitter and Instagram for live match updates.
 
SENIOR NIGHT
Prior to kick, Wake Forest will honor senior captain Giovanna DeMarco with a special presentation. DeMarco has appeared in 49 games over the past five seasons entering Sunday and has started 45 of those matches. DeMarco is responsible for 16  points, six goals along with four assists. DeMarco was named to the 2018 ACC All-Freshman Team. Overall, the senior has totaled over 3,800 minutes of action in the Old Gold and Black. 
 
FAN INFORMATION
A number of new fan experience enhancements are planned for the 2021 season. This includes expanded food and beverage options, including availability on Walt Chyzowych Alumni Hill, an enhanced in-game experience, featuring an expanded video board production with additional cameras, replay, and fan-engaging elements, as well as new immersive experiences to promote the unique culture that is known around professional and collegiate soccer.

Gates open at 4 p.m., or one hour prior to kickoff for all future home matches.

TICKET INFORMATION
The best way to enjoy Demon Deacon soccer throughout the 2021 season is through the purchase of Season Tickets. Packages start at only $45 for adults or $25 for youth and seniors. 
 
For those wishing to purchase single-game admission for Spry Stadium, advance purchases are highly encouraged. Single game chairback seats are available for only $25, while bleacher admission is $20.

HEALTH & SAFETY PROTOCOLS
Wake Forest Athletics works closely with Wake Forest University, Forsyth County and state officials to follow COVID-related guidelines for the safety of fans in attendance at Truist Field and all venues. While proof of vaccination is not currently required for spectators, we encourage vaccinations for all. We are proud that nearly 100% of Wake Forest Athletics student-athletes, staff and coaches are vaccinated, as required under University and Athletics policy. Currently, all academic buildings are closed to visitors, and masks are required in all indoor spaces. For additional information regarding steps the University is taking to minimize the risk of COVID-19 transmission on campus, we strongly encourage you to review the University's COVID-19 Notice.
 
Wake Forest has several gameday guidelines and strategies. First and foremost is required face coverings for all unvaccinated fans in attendance. Additionally, all fans must wear a mask indoors at all times, regardless of vaccination status. Wake Forest Athletics also requires all non-team personnel to be masked at all times inside the field enclosure. 
 
LAST TIME OUT
Wake Forest women's soccer garnished a rainy double overtime victory against Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) foe Miami on Thursday night at Spry Stadium. 
 
The Demon Deacons journeyed for its second overtime finish in a row. 30 seconds into the second overtime senior Sofia Rossi netted the game-winning goal coming from a Ryanne Brown cross. Rossi's goal was her fourth of the season and the assist from Brown was her third.
 
STINGY DEFENSE
The Demon Deacons have posted 10 shutouts and have scored 29 but only given up four goals to date. The team's .307 goals-against average leads all of Division 1. Parks ranks second among all keepers in Division I with a .280 goals-against average and is tied for fourth most shutouts in the nation.
 
EVERYONE IS DANGEROUS
Twelve different Deacs have scored at least one goal this season, and six of Deac's 12 goal scorers have scored two or more goals.
 
NEW PROGRAM SHUTOUT RECORD
Wake Forest held opponents scoreless from the start of the season through the 19:32 mark vs No. 7 Virginia, setting a new program record for longest shutout streak of 739:32.
 
HOT START
Wake Forest started the season with eight straight shutouts for the first time in team history.
 
SCOUTING THE HOKIES
Virginia Tech enters the contest with a 8-3-2 (2-1-2 ACC) record and is led in scoring by Emily Gray, Nicole Kozlova and Tori Powell who have combined for 20 goals. 
 
The Hokies jumped up two spots in the United Soccer Coaches top 25 poll, coming in at No. 17. VT witnessed its six-match unbeaten streak come to an end at the hand of Clemson on Thursday with a 1-0 final.
 
SERIES HISTORY
The Virginia Tech Hokies lead the all-time series with Wake Forest, 8-6-3. 
 
The last Wake Forest win against Virginia Tech occurred in 2014 when the Deacs defeated the Hokies 1-0 in Blacksburg, Va. 
 
UP NEXT
The Deacs finalize their three-match homestand on Friday, Oct. 15, hosting No. 6 Duke at 7 p.m. on ACC Network Plus.
