Wake Forest Begins Home Campaign Against Cornell and UNC-Greensboro

The Demon Deacons are a combined 23-6 in home non-conference games since the start of the 2016-17 season.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Wake Forest women's basketball team is set to host its first home games of the season this weekend at Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum against Cornell on Friday and UNC-Greensboro on Sunday.
The Demon Deacons (1-0) are coming off a season-opening win against the 2021 SoCon Champion Mercer Bears on Tuesday night where they were led by a career-high tying 19 points from senior forward Christina Morra. Wake Forest was also able to get to the free throw line 30 times in the game, converting on 22 attempts to help secure the double-digit road victory.
In their first game since the 2019-20 season, Cornell (1-0) captured a road victory at Colgate, 53-34, on Wednesday night. Senior forward Theresa Grace Mbanefo led the way for the Big Red with a 15 point, 14 rebound performance to open the season. Both categories marked career highs for Mbanefo while she was also one block away from her career best, finishing the night with three blocks.
UNC-Greensboro (1-0) captured a season-opening over UNC-Asheville on Tuesday afternoon, 52-48. The Spartans were led by a 19-point performance from senior guard Jaylynn Brown while sophomore forward Khalis Cain tallied 12 points, eight rebounds and six blocks.
Tipoff for Friday's game against the Big Red is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. (ET) in Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum. The game can also be seen on ACC Network Extra/ESPN App.
Sunday's tip is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. (ET) in LJVM Coliseum. The game is also airing on ACC Network Extra/ESPN App.

MORRA THAT
In the first game of her senior campaign, Christina Morra tied her career high with 19 points on Tuesday night. The career-best performance was matched twice by Morra against North Carolina (March 4, 2020) in the ACC Tournament and against Miami (FL) (January 7, 2021).
The Toronto, Ontario native netted seven of the Demon Deacons final 13 points to close out the season-opening road victory against Bears.
She also led the way from the free throw line, converting on 7-of-8 attempts from the charity stripe as the Demon Deacons scored 32.4 percent of their points from the line.

The Demon Deacons opened the season with a 13-point road victory over the 2021 SoCon Champion Bears on Tuesday night. After falling behind early, the Demon Deacons stormed back in the second quarter behind a stingy defensive performance. The Bears only managed to shoot 25.0 percent in the quarter as Wake Forest took the lead and never relinquished it from there.

Senior forward Christina Morra led the way for the Demon Deacons with a career-high tying 19 points in the victory. Sophomore Jewel Spear added 14 points and junior Niyah Becker totaled 10 points in her Wake Forest debut.
