Wake Forest Hosts Charleston Southern in Midweek Matchup

11/16/2021 6:10:00 PM | Men's Basketball

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest men's basketball team will continue their five-game homestand on Wednesday, Nov. 17 against Charleston Southern in the third all-time meeting between the two programs.

The Demon Deacons (2-0) are coming off a resilient 87-75 victory over Western Carolina last Friday in which Alondes Williams (32 points) and Daivien Williamson (24 points) combined for 56 of the team's 87 points.

Wake Forest took care of business on both sides of the floor as the Deacs shot 51.7 percent from the field on offense and forced 19 turnovers on defense. Jake LaRavia set a new career high with six steals against the Catamounts, bringing his overall tally to 10 steals in just two games this season.

The Buccaneers (1-1) are coming off a 93-68 loss to Ole Miss and are coached by 17th-year coach Barclay Radebaugh. Radebaugh's squad returns three starters from the 2020-21 season and another from the 2019-20 season.

Wake Forest assistant coach BJ McKie began his coaching career with Radebaugh, serving as an assistant from 2011 to 2015 and associate head coach from 2015 to 2017 on his staff prior to joining Coach Forbes at East Tennessee State.

Tipoff in Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum is scheduled for 7 p.m. and the game will stream live on ACC Network Extra.

Fans can follow along via the Demon Deacons Twitter and Instagram accounts (@WakeMBB).

Standout Stats
The Demon Deacons are off to strong starts on both the offensive and defensive side of the game.

Offensively, the Demon Deacons have shot 51.7 percent in each of their first two games, making this years' squad the first to shoot 50 percent or better from the field in consecutive games to open the season since the 2008-09 team.

On defense, Wake Forest has forced 40 turnovers over its first two games. Jake LaRavia (10 steals) is the first player to grab 10 steals through the first two games of the season since Jeff Teague had back-to-back five-steal games to open the 2007-08 season.
