Lanckohr, Friedman and Vancells Garner NFHCA All-Region Honors

The trio receives regional accolades for the second-straight season.

BROCKPORT, N.Y. - Wake Forest junior midfielder Meike Lanckohr, junior midfielder Nat Friedman and senior midfielder Laia Vancells were named to the 2021 National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division I All-Region Teams, as announced by the organization. 

Lanckohr led the way, receiving First Team All-South Region honors, while Vancells and Friedman landed on the region's Second Team.

Last season, the trio also garnered All-Region honors for their contributions during the 2020-21 campaign. 

The All-Region teams kick off postseason awards for the NFHCA as the Regional Players of the Year will be announced on Nov. 29, followed by the NFHCA All-American teams on Dec. 14 and the NFHCA National Player of the Year on Dec. 16. 

The All-Region Deacs

Meike Lanckohr (First Team)

  • Appeared in 13 matches, making 12 starts

  • Received First Team All-ACC honors

  • Tallied a team-best and career-high 20 points with a career-high nine goals and two assists

  • Finished tied for second in the ACC in goals, while ranking third in points per game (1.54)

  • Notched a season-high tying four points twice with a career-high tying two goals against Iowa (Aug. 27) and Duke (Sept. 17)

  • Found the back of the net in three-straight games from Sept. 17-24. 

  • Named ACC Offensive Player of the Week after leading Wake Forest's offensive attack with a trio of goals in back-to-back wins over top-25 opponents in No. 17 Duke and No. 21 UMass.

  • Attempted a career-high 11 shots against Ohio State (Sept. 10)

  • Fired .541 percent of her 37 shots on goal (20)

Nat Friedman (Second Team)

  • Appeared and started in all 17 matches this season

  • Received Second Team All-ACC honors

  • Dished out a career-high eight assists, which was tied for the ACC lead at the end of the regular season

  • Assisted on a Wake Forest goal in seven matches, highlighted by a career-best two assists against App State (Sept. 4)

  • Tallied an assist in back-to-back wins over top-25 opponents in No. 17 Duke and No. 21 UMass

  • Notched goals against James Madison (Sept. 12) and VCU (Oct. 22). 

  • Attempted a career-high 44 shots, with 19 being on goal (.432 percent)

Laia Vancells (Second Team)

  • Appeared in 17 matches, making 14 starts

  • Dished out an assist on one of Wake Forest's two goals at VCU 

  • Attempted 16 shots, including 12 on goal (.750 percent)

  • Fired a trio of shots at VCU and at Louisville
