WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest men's basketball team will face VMI on Tuesday evening inside Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum.
The Demon Deacons (9-1) are coming off a 79-53 victory over USC-Upstate at home on Saturday and are looking to continue their best start to a season since 2008-09.
Alondes Williams was named the ACC Player of the Week after notching the first triple-double by a Demon Deacon since Tim Duncan in the victory, finishing with a team-high 16 points, 14 rebounds, and 10 assists. The Milwaukee native is averaging 17 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 6.0 assists over his last five games.
Carter Whitt also pieced together an impressive performance, finishing with a career-high 16 points with six rebounds and two assists. The Raleigh native drained four triples as part of his career night, joining Isaiah Mucius and Daivien Williamson as Deacs to have done so thus far this season.
Wake Forest currently ranks first in the ACC and 14th in the country in field goal percentage at 49.7 percent and the Deacs' 81.5 points per game ranks second in the ACC and 31st in the country.
The Keydets (7-4) are riding a four-game winning streak and are coming off a 64-61 victory over Gardner-Webb. VMI is led by seventh-year coach Dan Earl, whose squad currently averages 12.6 made threes per game (third in NCAA) and 80.5 percent shooting from the stripe (seventh in NCAA).
As a head coach, Steve Forbes is a perfect 11-0 against Earl and the Keydets. ETSU defeated VMI twice every season during Forbes tenure and beat them in March 2020 in the Southern Conference Tournament enroute to the SoCon tournament title.
