Demon Deacons Kick Off 2022 with Road Tilt Against Miami

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest men's basketball team will face Miami on Saturday evening as the team kicks off the New Year in Coral Gables.
The Demon Deacons (11-2, 1-1) are coming off a 73-69 defeat at the hands of Louisville that came down to the wire. Daivien Williamson (14 points) and Isaiah Mucius (nine points) each knocked down clutch three-pointers during the contest's final minutes but were answered each time by the Cardinals.
Jake LaRavia finished with 15 points, seven rebounds, and four assists in his return to action. Alondes Williams also chipped in 15 points to go along with seven assists and four rebounds.
Williams currently ranks second in the conference in scoring at 20.5 points per game. In total, the Milwaukee native is averaging 22.0 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 6.7 assists over his last six games on 52.2 percent shooting.
Williams is one of two players in the country with three 30-point games this season and is also the only player in the country with at least 265 points, 80 rebounds, and 65 assists on the season.
Wake Forest currently ranks 39th in the country in field goal percentage (0.488) and 32nd in the country in points per game (80.2). Both marks are second-best in the ACC.
The Hurricanes (10-3, 2-0) are on a six-game win streak and are coming off a 92-83 victory over NC State on Wednesday evening. Miami is led by 11th year head coach Jim Larranaga and ranks third in the conference in both free throws per game (15.0) and free throw percentage (0.750)
Tipoff inside Watsco Center is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. ET and the game will air live on ESPNU.
