No. 11 Wake Forest continued their winning ways, defeating Florida State 5-2 and Elon 6-1 on Saturday for its third win in two days.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The No. 11 Wake Forest men's tennis team finished the sweep of the home weekend, grabbing victories over Florida State and Elon Saturday afternoon at Wake Forest Tennis Center.
The Demon Deacons started the day with strong doubles play against Florida State (5-9, 0-4 ACC) and then were sparked by an impressive straight-set win by Henri Squire over No. 77 Knaff. After clinching the win, Florida State secured two late wins to finalize the score, 5-2.
Moving into the evening match versus Elon (8-2), Wake Forest kept their momentum going by winning doubles again and never wavered to cap off the night. The Deacs ultimately earned a 6-1 victory over the Phoenix.
Quotable:
"It was a good day with a lot of tennis played. Florida State and Elon are both quality opponents and anytime you get an ACC win, it is a good day. Our doubles play was strong in both matches today.
Credit to Florida State, they started well and we were down in a couple sets but our guys were tough and used their fitness to their advantage. It was good to get that match to 4-0 and let the guys play it out.
We had a few extra guys play today that don't always get to play. I think Elon is a good team but our guys did a good job. We are moving in the right direction." - Coach Tony Bresky
