Siyun Liu led Wake Forest in her best performance of the season thus far.
Augusta, Ga. - The Wake Forest women's golf team finished the Valspar Augusta Invitational in fourth place with all five Demon Deacons finishing inside the top 25.
The Deacs closed the 11-stroke gap from the second round and jumped ahead of Florida State during the middle of the day and came as close as five strokes to the lead, but ultimately dropped two strokes behind the Seminoles to finish in fourth.Senior Siyun Liu had her best outing of the season so far and her first top five finish since the Darius Rucker last March where she finished in fifth. Six birdies coupled with a bogey-free final nine holes of the day secured her team-high finish. This was Liu's seventh top-five finish of her career.
Sophomore Lauren Walsh finished at T14, making this her fourth consecutive finish inside the top 15. She has finished T14 or better in every event this spring. Sophomore Rachel Kuehn finished one stroke behind Walsh. She recorded a team-low six bogeys over her 54 holes in Augusta.
Freshman Mimi Rhodes and senior Emilia Migliaccio rounded out the Deacs' lineup with a 22nd and T23 finish, respectively. Junior Letizia Bagnoli was competing as an individual and finished T58.
Coach's Comments
"We didn't have the finish we would have liked, but we know what needs work and we are fortunate to have a great place on campus to do just that. The girls came in and played hard and we are always proud of the way they represent Wake Forest.
We are very excited for Swing. She works hard and just needed some competition reps under her belt. We are happy to see her hard work pay off with a top five finish in a tough field." -head coach Kim Lewellen
