Deacs Set to Face Big Four Opponents in Match Play Event

3/19/2021 12:41:00 PM | Women's Golf

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest women's golf team heads up Tobacco Road for a day of match play with Big Four opponents NC State, North Carolina and Duke.

The Deacs are coming off a fourth place finish at the Valspar Augusta Invitational, with all five Demon Deacons finishing inside the top 25.

The Deacs closed an 11-stroke gap from the second round and came as close as five strokes to the lead, but ultimately finished in fourth. Senior Siyun Liu had her best outing of the season so far and her first top five finish since the Darius Rucker last March where she finished in fifth. Six birdies coupled with a bogey-free final nine holes of the day secured her team-high finish. This was Liu's seventh top-five finish of her career.

Sophomore Lauren Walsh finished at T14, making this her fourth consecutive finish inside the top 15. She has finished T14 or better in every event this spring

Course Information
The event will be held at the par 72, 6,351 yard Lonnie Poole Golf Course in Raleigh, North Carolina. The course was a regional site for the 2015 NCAA Championships and will be a host again in 2023. Wake Forest alum and Forever Deac Arnold Palmer originally designed the course in 2008. It is the only collegiate course designed by the golf legend.

Format
There will be semifinal matches in the morning of Saturday, March 20, starting at 8:30 a.m. ET with final and consolation matches in the afternoon beginning at 1:00 p.m.  Five players from each team will compete in match play. Duke and NC State will face each other while UNC and Wake will match up in the morning. The winners and losers from each match will play each other in the afternoon. There will also be 18 holes of stroke play with individual competitors from each team.

A complete recap with full results will be posted on GoDeacs.com following the full day's play.
